The minimum age limit to join Pony Club is 6 years as of the date of joining. You can stay in Pony Club as an active member until you are 25 years old. After that you can become a Horse Master. New members that are over 21 would also apply to become a Horse Master.
All members that sign up for pony club also will need to become members of the Canadian Ponyclub, the national organization. It is mandatory for Pony Club members to become members of the Provincial Equine Sports Organization in our province. In BC that is the HCBC (Horse Council of BC). Joining HCBC also provides you with personal liability insurance, which is a smart choice for any horse handler.
Pony Club isn’t just about riding a horse or pony – it’s a program designed to help members learn everything there is to know about these animals…it’s giving them the opportunity to try different disciplines of the sport (show-jumping, dressage, rally, tetrathlon, etc.) and most importantly, providing them with connections to other horse lovers in their town, province and region who share this passion. Pony Clubbers make lifetime friendships in a club designed for the horse-crazy!
*Unfortunately Boundary Bay Pony Club does not offer riding lessons, nor does it provide horses or ponies. If you wish to participate in mounted activities, you will have to bring your own or lease or borrow one from a third party.
We do not receive financial support from any governmental agencies and thus depend on our fees and fundraising to offer our programs. The success of our programs depends entirely on the participation of volunteers in a variety of capacities that could include anything from helping out with a fundraiser to serving on a branch committee. Many hands make light work and everyone brings a unique set of gifts and talents to the mix. Everyone has something to offer.
Each BBPC member must have a parent, or guardian contribute a minimum of 20 hours of volunteer time during the Pony Club year. Not only will your child benefit from the many horse-related activities, you will also meet other BBPC parents, learn about BBPC regional activities, and find resources to support your child develop their passion and knowledge of all things equine.
*There are certain activities that have specific volunteer requirements and these activities will NOT contribute towards the minimum 20 hours (Quiz and PPG games days).
Includes national fee, regional fee and branch fee plus new members will receive a BBPC polo shirt.*

You are required to have both a 2024 and 2025 HCBC Membership. If you do not have a current HCBC membership, a combined rate is available which includes prorated rates for the current year (Sept 5-Dec 31 2024) and all of 2025.
*In addition to our local Branch Fees, fees include a base national fee ($110) and a regional fee ($55) which cover administration costs, your riding passport and welcome package, and contributes toward our ability to offer national competitions, scholarships, and other functions necessary to the running of our programs.
These fees are estimates and are subject to change year to year.
Participation fee is approx. $60 and each member is required to provide a parent volunteer for the full day. This is where you get to test all your new horse knowledge!
Options and pricing vary year to year.
Every member who participates in a PPG Games Day (there are 4 total) is required to pay a fee of $30/pp each day (2022/23 rate). You do not have to participate in all 4. This is suggested for those who have their own horses, or who have access to a horse they can lease or borrow.
If we are able to secure horses for members without access to horses to use the cost is $150/member per games day. The Club tries to secure ponies for use at practices so that as many members can try out this sport. The costs for these horses is borne by the club as part of the base membership dues. Please note that we are not always able to secure ponies. Practices may be divided and ponies will be shared.
This 1 night, 2 day event held in the spring is an opportunity to learn how to take care of a pony full time. There are activities and games and food/snacks provided. Parent volunteers are required.
BBPC hoodies, hats and other horsewear is available for purchase throughout the year.
